ABBEY & IMBRIE "Fish Hook" Trademark Brass Raised Pillar Single Action Fly Reel Circa-1887. Featuring the earliest crossed hook logo on the head cap, this 2 1/4" diameter (measured pillar to pillar), and a 1" wide spool. Brass shows a lot of patina so I wiped the face just enough to expose the spectacular early trademark leaving the rest of this fine reel as it was intended. Everything functions perfect with the reel spinning fast, smooth and straight with no wobble. Clicker is strong in both directions. Reel has a small crank handle with turned rubber grasp that spins freely. A scarce little reel that's been preserved for over a century! ABBEY & IMBRIE, a New York fishing tackle retailer and wholesaler, was formed in 1875 by the buyout of Andrew Clerk (in the fishing tackle business since the 1820s) by L. H. Abbey and Charles F. Imbrie. The famous A&I crossed fish hook trademark seen on this and other early A&I reels was granted in 1877. Great History and great reel!
Note: Last picture shows a blow up of the logo.
